Shelburne grew up in San Fernando, California.

She went on to play college softball at Stanford, where she also wrote for the Stanford Daily. Shelburne began working for the Los Angeles Daily News as a sports columnist in 2002.

She worked at the publication for seven years, meeting mentors like Howard Beck, who currently works as a senior writer for Bleacher Report.

In 2009, Shelburne left the Daily News and began working for ESPN.

In 2014, Shelburne was a first-place winner in the Professional Basketball Writers Association Best Writing Contest.

She won the “Breaking News” category for her coverage of Shelly Sterling’s sale of the Los Angeles Clippers.

Three of Shelburne’s articles, stories on Ronda Rousey, DeAndre Jordan, and Lamar Odom, were mentioned in Sports Illustrated’s “Best Journalism of 2015.”

Currently, she holds the title of Senior Writer, often reporting on the two Los Angeles professional basketball teams.
