Mike Lupica was born in Oneida, New York and graduated from Boston College in 1974. After covering sporting events for The Boston Globe while at Boston College, Lupica covered the New York Knicks for The New York Post in 1975 when he was just 23.
When he joined The New York Daily News two years later in 1977, Lupica became one of the youngest columnists ever at a New York paper.
Lupica has written several signature columns throughout his career including the weekly ‘Shooting from the Lip’ for The New York Daily News, which featured a traditional column that is followed up by a series of short and quick observations from the past week in sports.
He also launched a column titled ‘The Sporting Life’ in Esquire Magazine in 1987 and has published articles for various magazines, such as ESPN: The Magazine, Golf Digest, Sports Illustrated, Men’s Journal, Parade, and Playboy. His columns also appear on the website, “Sports on Earth.”
He has been a rotating pundit on ESPN’s ‘The Sports Reporters’ since 1988 and has also been a recurring guest on ‘CBS Morning News’, ‘Good Morning America’, ‘Imus In The Morning’, and ‘Morning Joe’ throughout his career.
Lupica hosted a daily radio show in New York from May 9, 2011 until August 21, 2015. He has also had a successful career as an author, writing more than 30 books (many for young adults), including the 2004 novel ‘Travel Team’ which went on to sell more than 500,000 copies.
