Macur grew up in Bridgewater, New Jersey. After spending a few years as a competitive rower following college, Macur returned to Columbia for a master’s degree in journalism and was hired by the Orlando Sentinel to cover NASCAR and the Jacksonville Jaguars. She joined The Times in 2004.

Macur is a decorated journalist receiving awards from the Associated Press Sports Editors, National Press Club and the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2009, the National Press Club awarded Macur the Ann Cottrell Free Animal Reporting award for her coverage of the traumatized pit bulls from then Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick’s dog fighting ring.
