The Shirley Povich Center for Sports Journalism is a place where students at the Philip Merrill College of Journalism and the University of Maryland campus at-large can explore the world of sports journalism. Students are invited to attend, volunteer and participate in events the Povich Center sponsors as well as contribute to the ongoing discussion of sports journalism that the Povich Center promotes. Students are also invited to contribute to the Povich Center website, interact with the Center on its Twitter feed (@PovichCenter) and enhance their skills through the sports journalism classes the Merrill College offers.

There are also many ways for students to get involved in sports journalism on the University of Maryland campus.
Capital News Service (CNS) is a student-powered news organization run by the Philip Merrill College of Journalism. CNS is a true newsroom experience for Merrill College students that prepares them them to enter the job market with real-world skills and the ability to shape the future of journalism.
University of Maryland’s student newspaper “The Diamondback” offers students the opportunity to cover University of Maryland sports in an award-winning publication.
BTN2GO gives students real-world broadcast experience where they work on the crew for more than 100 of the university’s non-revenue team games that were carried on BTN2Go per year.
Working in teams of six to nine, students took on the roles of directing, producing, sideline reporting, and running cameras, graphics or replays.
WMUC is the student-run radio station at the University of Maryland. Throughout the fall, winter, and spring, WUMC broadcasters do play-by-play and color commentary for football, men’s soccer, women’s soccer, field hockey, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, baseball and softball.
UMTV is the cable television station of the University of Maryland. Operated by the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, UMTV reaches more than 500,000 households in Maryland’s Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties on Verizon and Comcast cable. The station also streams its programming live around the world at http://merrill.umd.edu/about/umtv/umtvlive. CNS student news broadcasts and TerpsTV are part of UMTV’s programming.
Unwind! Magazine is an entertainment-news magazine published by and for University of Maryland, College Park students. It is sponsored by the College Park Scholars Media, Self and Society Program.
