Jane Leavy was born in 1951 and grew up on Long Island, attending Barnard College and graduate school at Columbia University.

After completing an undergraduate degree at Barnard College, Leavy decided she wanted to be a sports journalist and went to Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, where she wrote her master’s essay on Red Smith, one of America’s greatest sportswriters.

Leavy was a staff writer at The Washington Post for nearly a decade, writing for the sports, then style sections. She covered baseball, tennis and the Olympics and wrote features and profiles for the paper. She has also been a staff writer for Self and womenSports magazines as well.

Leavy transferred her sports writing into writing books, including New York Times bestsellers “The Last Boy”, “Sandy Koufax: A Lefty’s Legacy” and the novel “Squeeze Play”, which shows the authors’ effortless talent in story-telling and unique ability to grip her audience.
